The portfolio of the German Cooperation programmes with the African Union (AU) is headquartered in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Federal Foreign Office (AA) as lead commissioning parties, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) implements various projects and programmes together with the AU, focusing on agriculture, education, peace and security, regional economic integration and good governance.

The African Land Policy Centre (ALPC), the German government (through BMZ and GIZ), and the World Bank have jointly agreed to strengthen human and institutional capacities for implementing a sustainable and development-oriented land policy under the program “Strengthening Advisory Capacities for Land Governance in Africa (SLGA)”.

The programme is funded by BMZ as part of the special initiative “ONE World – No Hunger” (SEWOH) and it contributes directly to achieving the objectives of the action area of “promoting responsible land use and improving access to land”. The SLGA thereby also contributes to improved global food security. The core activity of the programme is the implementation and orchestration of the “Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa” (NELGA).
